From stringing beads to make a necklace, to actually making the beads yourself, we will try to introduce to you the world of jewellery making. You may find that you already have some of the tools and materials needed to make jewellery. So – be brave and start to create!
Emily Jo Gibbs textile art
Emily Jo Gibbs is a British Artist who over the last two decades has established an international reputation for her exquisite work. She has received significant critical acclaim and examples of her work are in several museum collections including the V&A, London and The Museum of Fine Art, Houston. Emily is a member of the 62 Group of Textile Artists and in 1998 was formally elected as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts.
Making Evening Clutch
Transform an assortment of pretty satin ribbons into a chic evening clutch. Use a selection of different coloured ribbons in a variety of widths to create an interesting and balanced piece of woven ribbon fabric. Use a medium interfacing that will support the weight of the ribbons, ironing a second layer on top of the first if you want a firmer, more structured design.
Pretty Christmas Napkins
These floral Christmas napkins will brighten up your table no end – and they don’t have to match. It is floral, funny and refreshing. You can also create place-name cards by sticking patterned masking tape to a folded piece of card and writing on each guest’s name.
Trish Raine’s Handmade Felt Hats
Originally from Oliver, B.C., Trish Raine moved to Fredericton, NB, and happily found footing within the local fibre scene. Outside of her work as an occupational therapist, she has immersed herself in her craft, felting in her free time, creating one-of-a-kind wearable felt, as well as art pieces that have been included in various art and fibre shows. She felts year round and sells her wares at winter craft fairs in Halifax, Nova Scotia, as well as Moncton and Fredericton, New Brunswick.
Chopstick Trivet
One of the most common junk drawer staples is Chinese takeaway food chopsticks. We all save them, but ultimately will probably never, ever use them. Recycling chopsticks into a handy trivet is a great example of form and function: The recycled result looks like a wooden starburst, and your countertops will breathe a sigh of relief the next time you place a hot pot of stew on top. Your precious marble or wood countertop would thank you if it could.
Tetsuya Uenobe shoes
Tetsuya Uenobe shoes are different. Tetsuya is a Japanese designer who creates shoes as ‘wearable art’. He graduated BTEC Professional Development Certificate in Design (Footwear/ Accessories) at Cordwainers at London College of Fashion in June/ 2001. Before then, he was employed as a Merchandiser for men’s footwear and leather accessories of a mail order company in Japan.
Create Unique Passport or Notebook Covers
In this project you will learn how to protect and personalise a passport or notebook with a removable and reusable cover. With a few minor adjustments, you could adapt this cover for your passport, diary or notebook of any size and personalise it as much as you wish. In this version we have made the cover to fit a standard paperback novel and reused a skinny belt to create a book fastener and to join the front cover to the back.
Pencil Rolls
This neat little pencil roll is just great for the start of a new school year, for keeping together favourite pencils or even brushes and little tubes of make-up. You can add initials, name tags or button decorations if you wish, too. You can use different materials, make a patchwork design or appliquè.
