Sian Zeng Magical Textiles and Wallpaper

Sian Zeng is an award winning London based design company specializing in wallpapers, interior accessories and gift items. Established in 2010, Sian Zeng products are known for their narrative based designs which are often magical with an eccentric charm. It’s a weird world of fairy tales and vintage details that you have to notice.

The company have launched the magnetic woodlands wallpaper that allows users to create their own stories. Inspired by the changeable nature of fairy tale stories, where frogs can suddenly become princes and princes can become frogs, this work on magnetic wallpapers is concerned with visual narratives that can be altered through interaction.

Sian created a collection of narrative wallpapers that allow users to move magnetic characters on the wallpaper, write on the speech bubbles and place them anywhere they like.

The designer, Sian Zeng was awarded the William Atkinson award in 2008 by Central Saint Martins and in 2010/2011 the Ellle Decoration young talent of the year award by Elle Decoration.

She was born in China and moved to Hungary at the age of seven. Her multicultural upbringing has helped inform the imaginative concept of her work. In 2010 Sian launched her new collection of wallpapers and textiles based on the city of Pecs in Hungary to celebrate the city’s status as a cultural capital of Europe in the same year. She is very happy to be designing a collection based on a Hungarian city and on Hungarian motifs.

Character Bears were made based on the Bear in Wick Vic’s final robbery animation I made earlier. I thought it was time for Wick Vic to leave the forest and become a city dweller. He wears glasses and tie in his office and sunglasses on his holiday.

With her passion for ‘crazy’ stories and beautiful patterns, Sian continues to explore the possibilities of new and traditional technology to create narrative led surfaces for quirky interiors.
