Artist Trading Cards (ATC) are miniature works of art created on 2 ½ x 3 ½ inches cards. They are totally original expressions of an individual’s craft or artistic bent and were the brainwave of a Swiss artist called Vanci Stirnemann, artist-in-residence, at Calgary’s The New Gallery. He wanted to produce a catalogue in playing-card format to document work in the gallery but because of printing costs were so prohibitive, the project was shelved until 1996.
Peter Clark uses a comprehensive collection of found papers as his palette which are coloured, patterned or textured by their printed, written or worn surfaces, with this media he ‘paints’ his collages. He shades with density of print and creates substance and movement with lines plucked from old maps or manuscripts. His pieces use mark-making in an innovative and humorous way to create.
Bookbinding allows you to create something that is both beautiful and functional, while also indulging a love of paper. Paper is, of course, an essential component of bookbinding, and there is delight to be had in selecting papers of specific colours, weights and textures to suit a particular bookbinding project.
It is really important to teach your children from earliest age to preciate and love to live in nice and organized space. The good way to do this is to introduce them in crafting, of course on the level appropriate to their age.
